Dell Dimension 9200 XPS410 CPU Upgrade Failure

I have a Dell Dimension  9200 that came with a Pentium D 2.8 GHz Processor. After researching these forums (search: CPU upgrade Dell Dimension 9200  or user shesagordie) I believed that I could upgrade to Q6700 CPU. It seems others on this forum have done this successfully also.  I put the new CPU in following all the instructions, and the PC  Starts up but during POST a line comes up "CPU is not supported by your system.  i go into the BIOS and it accurately detects the CPU type, bus speed, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the latest BIOS version?  If not get that and see if that helps.

On SOME Dell models, they will support newer CPU's but the BIOS will report an incompatible CPU on boot and you will have to press an "F key" to proceed with the boot, but it will boot up OK and run OK.  This is an issue in the Dimension E510/5150 models as Dell used several different part number motherboards and on all the boards except one part number, a compatible upgraded CPU will give the incompatible CPU error.

This is what Intel shows for your P965 chipset as being compatible and able to run the Q6700:

Valid MCH/ICH Combinations

Chipset Combination Embedded Intel® SIPP Chipset Status
Intel® P965 Express Chipset with 82801HB I/O Controller Hub 8 (ICH8) No No Launched
Intel® P965 Express Chipset with 82801HH I/O Controller Hub 8 (ICH8DH) No No Launched
Intel® P965 Express Chipset with 82801HR I/O Controller Hub 8 (ICH8R) No No Launched

Prior to installing the processor, you need to upgrade to the latest BIOS version, 2.5.3, with version 2.5.1, new CPU support was added.

You can find BIOS version 2.5.3 HERE

It worked!!!!:emotion-21: Thank you very much! I bought the processor upgrade to able to watch Star Trek and other movies on Blu-Ray. I have a Lite-on blu ray player.

BTW: How can disable the RAID search during POST. I have two drives on different controllers but not in RAID configuration. So each time I start up the PC hangs for about 10-20 seconds.
