Will the Dell Inspiron 3650 Desktop computer support a separate sound card?

You have two PCIe x1 card slots so I think you should be able to install an audio card in one of those slots.
Make sure the card supports whatever version of Windows you're using.

You shouldn't have any issues. You can use a USB sound card or a PCIe x1 sound card.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was uncertain about using the separate card because Dell Support would not give specific answer regarding its use. In fact, in their accessories offerings for the Insp. 3650, they fail to even offer a separate sound card. However, on Chat, they did suggest the use of a USB sound card.

Unless Dell actually sells a card or other piece of hardware for a specific system, Support isn't likely to recommend anything because -if it doesn't work- you're going to blame them for recommending it.
You'll probably have to install a software driver for the audio card which may come on a CD and/or be available for download. And don't forget to move your speaker connections to the add-in card because the onboard audio is likely going to be disabled after the card is properly installed.
You might search these forums to see if anyone has reported installing a PCI-e x1 audio card in this Inspiron model and how it worked out for them.

I fully agree with you about Dell's reluctance to offer any advice on a separate sound card. I've taken the bull by the horns and ordered a Sound Blaster® 30SB157000001 sound card - with deliver next week. I'll let you know how it works out.
