Dell Inspiron 570 RAM memory upgrade problem

 Hi all

Dell Inspiron 570 RAM memory upgrade problem

System

Insprion 570 mATX desktop

A06 bios

4gJJT motherboard

64 bit windows 10

4 DIMM slots (2GB max each)

Trying to go from 4 to 5 GB
I currently have two 2GB 240p PC3-10600 CL9 16c 128x8 DDR3-1333 2Rx8 1.5V UDIMM RFB

EBJ21UE8BDF0-DJ-F CJI 2GB 240p PC3-10600 CL9 16c 128x8 DDR3-1333 2Rx8 1.5V UDIMM RFB, Elpida

Current setup, everything fine

DIMM 4 2GB  EPBJ21UE8BDF0-DJ-F

DIMM 2  2GB  EPBJ21UE8BDF0-DJ-F

Upgrade
I acquired a  KVR1333D3N9K3/3G Kingston 1GB DDR3 1Rx8 PC3-10600U

DIMM 1 damaged and unusable clip and two connector teeth missing

I tried the new RAM module in empty DIMM 3 but PC failed to boot
 just blue light.

The new RAM module is functioning  on own with the original RAM removed and NEW added  PC boots correctly and module passing all diagnostics

f The service manual says

Dell™ Inspiron™ 560/570 Service Manual

Recommended Memory Configuration see page 27

570

one RAM module = DIMM 4

two RAM module = DIMM 4 and 3

three RAM module = DIMM 4 ,3,2

--

Is the service manual wrong?

Why won't PC recognize the new ram module and BOOT  is slot 3 ?

regards

You have to install in pairs.  If one socket is bad you will NOT be able to add ram.

  • Maximum memory: 8192MB
  • Slots:4 (2 banks of 2)  This means matched pairs.
  • White Ears are the 1st Bank and Black Ears are the 2nd Bank

1 GB     2 X 512
2 GB    2  X  1GIG
3 GB    2 X 512 and 2X 1Gig
4 GB   4 X 1 gig   2X  2gig
5 GB   2 X 2 gig and 2X 512
6 GB   2 X 2gig and 2X 1gig
7 GB No such thing this is invalid and Manual is wrong.
8 GB  4 x 2 Gig
You cant install in 1 then 3 then 4.  This won't EVER work.

I am going threw up old posts on this forum there is definitely dells 570 with 3 ram modules in them working.

Are you sure you installed the new RAM is in the right slots? According to the manual (page 27), 3 sticks of RAM installed in the 570 should be in slots 4, 3, and 2 with slot 1 empty. Slot 1 is the slot closest to the CPU.

The white ears are the 1st bank

The black ears are the 2nd bank

You have damaged socket in 1st chip of 2nd bank.

This is never going to work ever.

When you install 2 they MUST Match.

The 3rd MUST GO in the 3rd Socket.

White Ears is 1st bank.  #3 is 1st chip in 2nd bank.

The table below is referring to chips as though it goes 1 2 3 4

not 1 then 3  then 2 then 4.  WHITE EARS BANK 1

BLACK EARS BANK 2.   A = 1 and 3  B=2 and 4

Back again. was away.

Thats not correct diagram for a 570 see page 28 of service manual.

----

leaving this to one side

Here are results of single RAM module test

not possible visually damaged DIMM slot DIMM1

No boot DMM3

boot DIMM4

boot DIMM2

Does this mean DIMM3 slot is defective if a solitaire RAM module in it will not boot machine?

Will a Dell Inspiron 570 with a SINGLE RAM module in DIMM 3 boot?

Thanks
