Dell Inspiron 580 graphics upgrade

Hi everyone,

I own a Dell Inspiron 580, and want to upgrade the graphics card, mainly for photoshop but also occasional gaming (SWTOR).

Upon scouring the Dell site for hours it was telling me that the AMD Radeon HD 7750 Dual HDMI 1GBx16 PCIe is a compatible card with the Inspiron 580.

http://www.visiontek.com/7000-series/7750-dual-hdmi.html

In my excitement I ordered the card right away, but afterwards upon reading the specs, it is saying the minimum power requirement for the HD 7750 is 350 watts.... and now I am aware that the Inspiron 580 has only a 300 watt PSU.

Will it be possible to run this card safely with the stock PSU?

I have maxed my system's RAM to 8 Gb and also have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD installed.

Thank you for any information/advice you can give me.

Hi Ninjasaan,

Dell has not tested AMD Radeon HD 7750 with the system. You may install the graphics card and it should work fine. However, as you know the power requirement of the system for the card is more than the power supply shipped along with the system, you may need to replace the power supply. The minimum power supply required by the system for the card is 400 Watt.

You may replace the power supply of the system with a stock PSU of same dimensions and it should work.

For Service Manual, you may refer to the link: http://bit.ly/VphDmP.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reply for any further assistance.

A 300 watt system is PLENTY of juice to run a HD 7750 ... they are very low power.  You do not have to replace your power supply ... an entire system with that card running at its peak performance only uses about 200-210 watts.

check out the power consumption test on this hd 7750 review http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/AMD-Radeon-HD-7770-and-7750-Cape-Verde-GPU-Review/Overclocking-Power-Consumpt

thank you for your reply DELL-Amogh G, very appreciated :emotion-1:

I was going from this page, Inspiron 580 is listed at the bottom in compatable systems...

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A6523076&mfgpid=205141

but anyway it's all good, I can work with it.

Hi Ninjasaan,

Thank you for sharing the link. Although it is showing that the video card is compatible with the system but you may need to upgrade other components as well. Basically the power supply, as the power supply shipped with the system is 300 Watt and required by the system to run the card is 400 Watt.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reply for any further assistance.

thank you again DELL-Amogh G.

On the visiontech site it states:

- 300 watt (or greater) power supply recommended

- 400 watt (or greater) recommended for AMD Crossfire technology in dual mode

http://www.visiontek.com/7000-series/7750-dual-hdmi.html

I shall wait untill it arrives and see what the actual manual recommends.

Thanks again guys :emotion-2:_

Hi guys, I installed the Radeon HD 7750 Dual HDMI straight into the machine, loaded up the drivers and updates, and it has been running beautifully for over a week now. Not exactly a super-computer, but still greatly improved graphics capability. More than I had hoped for!

So there you go... the Radeon HD 7750 Dual HDMI is perfectly compatible with the Inspiron 580.
Thanks again for your help :emotion-1:

Hi NINJASAAN,

Did you notice enough of an improvement over the old card when you installed the HD 7750?
I'm about to do the same if you felt it was worth it.

Thanks!
