Dell Inspiron 660 - BSOD then "No boot device available"
I have a Dell Inspiron 660 (bought it refurb) for about 4-5 months and it came with Windows 8. About once a week and sometimes more often than that, I will get a Blue Screen (kernel data inpage error mostly but sometimes I get other errors), and it will automatically reboot, and then it says no boot device available. In the bios, the SATA Hard drives are not found. When I hit the power button to physically power it off and back on again, it boots normally and the SATA drives are found in the bios. I was never able to get a bsod memory dump to work, so I don't have any data from the blue screen crash.
It sometimes crashes overnight (wake up to "no boot device" screen), and almost always when I am simultaneously copying large files around and opening some other program.
I thought it was a windows 8/UEFI problem so I installed windows 7 on the machine, and the same problem is still happening. I have installed all of the latest drivers and BIOS from the dell website.
The dell diagnostics all pass and the SMART utilities say the HD is ok.
I believe it is a hardware problem and I am thinking about replacing the motherboard but I don't want to sink money into that when the HD is the problem. Any ideas?

Hi,
To ensure that it is not an issue with the hard drive, perform hard drive and hard drive stress test using Dell PC Diagnostics. Click the link given below and select hardware. Under hardware select Hard drive and Hard drive stress using the CTRL key on the keyboard. Perform the test and check the functionality.

Thanks. For 2 days I have tried to run the HD stress test but it crashes every time before it completes. It seems a lot of disk activity causes the crash. Any way to tell if it is the motherboard or the HD?
