Dell N826N Motherboards
Can I replace a Dell p/n N826N motherboard with a Dell p/n T287N in my Inspiron 545 desktop? Also, is a 775 socket compatible with both an Intel Core 2 Duo and an Intel Core 2 Quad processor? Do all N826N boards, regardless of where used, use the same type CPU? i.e., Quad or Duo?

Core 2 Quad processors are not supported by this motherboard.
The following are:
Wolfdale Dual Core kit, E5400, 2.70GB
Wolfdale Dual Core kit, E7400, 2.80GB
Wolfdale Dual Core kit, E7500, 2.93GB
Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8400, 3.00GB
Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8500, 3.16GB
Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8600 3.33GHz
Prior to installing the processor, check that the latest BIOS version is installed.

Inspiron Desktop 545MT motherboard N826N
They used the same Wolfdale CPUs but not the same Yorkfield CPUs. So you should look to getting a replacement N826N motherboard.

I'm trying to find out what CPU types are compatible with a T287N board. Specifically if a Core 2 Quad type can be used. Where can I easily find the answer? Contact means at Dell are no help as far as I'm concerned, almost impossible to talk with a live human. Very frustrating.

Thank you so very much for the answer. Out of curiosity how did you find the answer to my dilemma? I have searched every which way I know on the internet and still couldn't find the answer. One site I looked at that showed specs for this board said a Core 2 Quad was compatible!!!!

The Dell T287N Motherboard is for the Inspiron 545, 545s (Slim) Systems and supports the Intel Core 2 Duo and the Pentium D processors.
The Inspiron 545 motherboard W246R supports Yorkfield Quad Core processors.

The board manufacture's, FOXCONN, website lists the Intel Core 2 Quad as an acceptacle processor for the T287N!!! What am I missing or confusing?
By the way, I have an Inspiron 545 desktop that has a N826N board vice the W246R you cite and it supports the Core 2 Quad CPU.
