Dell Optiplex 3040 CPU upgrade

I replaced the CPU on my Optiplex 3040 SFF that originally had an i5 6500 with an i7 6700 I had that was just lying around. It booted up into windows but when i check the system information it still thinks that it has an i5? Is it going to cause issues in the future and should I reformat my windows? Thanks for the answers.

RE: Dell Optiplex 3040 CPU upgrade

Hi TwoKillaBytes,

Thanks for posting.

It may be that your BIOS is not sufficiently updated to recognize the new CPU. To confirm this, please check your motherboard and its BIOS version. You can find your BIOS version by entering BIOS when you boot and looking for a version number.
