Dell Precision T5400 with Seagate 3TB SATA, how?

Dear Community,

I have an Precision T5400 with Windows 8.1 and want to add a Seagate 3TB SATA HDD.
Unfortunately the Windows recognize the drive as 746GB.

Bios detected: 3000GB
Raid controller detected: 746GB
Windows 8.1 detected: 746GB

I already tried with SegateTools to set the drive to the maximum size, and also tried on many other way but without luck.

Please pointing me to the right way how I can use this 3TB drive with my Dell Precision T5400.

Thank you

The raid controller DOES NOT support larger than 2TB.  The onboard SATA requires F6 Drivers and WIN7SP1 AND INTEL RST 10.1.0.1008   this also requires DOTNET 3.5 which is not installed by default in windows 7 or 8 or 10.

You must have UEFI bios OR use a Host Bus Adapter if you want to BOOT from that drive.

Accepted solution is the Rocket 600 series card.

This is very clearly explained on the seagate site.

DotNet 1.0 2.0 3.5 IS NOT bundled with ANY version of windows and is NOT included in XP, VISTA, 7, 8 and 10.

Dotnet is an installer on the XP DVD from dell but it too is not installed by default.   DOTNET 1.0. 2.0 3.5 IS NOT INCLUDED with ANY of the Windows listed below.  Thats why there are WEB and Standalone installers.

This is why you MUST BE ONLINE when you add features to windows and Add the Checkboxes back

For DOTNET 2.0 3.5 as well as legacy Direct play.

You must then install DIRECTX JUNE 2010 DRIVERS by downloading the file and extracting into a folder and running DXSETUP.exe.

Directx June 2010 which you download and extract to a FOLDER then run DXsetup.exe as administrator.

in control panel, all control panel items,  programs and features.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443%28v=vs.110%29.aspx

 Enable dotnet 2.0 3.5

enable legacy directshow.

Install Directx June 2010 Patch.

Downloading Directx june 2010 does not install it.  You have to extract the file into a folder and then run DXSETUP.EXE as administrator.

The boxes must have checkmarks not squares to be installed.

Starting with XP DOTNET is 4.0

Drives or containers or volumes Larger than 2TB are NOT supported as boot volumes with the raid controller OR onboard INTEL ICH sata.   INTEL MSM was changed to INTEL RST starting with 9.6 for advanced format drives.   INTEL RST 10.1.0.1008 or higher is REQUIRED for non boot volumes.

A HOST BUS Adapter is required for BOOTING a NON UEFI bios based system with larger than 2TB drives.
