I always assumed my 220s would only take 4gb of DDR2 ram as the manual states.
However now my Dell Support Center says it can support up to 8GB of ram.
When googling "220s max memory" I get an increasing amount of sites who confirm that I could run 8GB.
Could somebody please confirm or deny this ?
Both the Dell manual for 220S model and the Crucial Memory listing (what we suggest for non-Dell memory) only show 4GB max for this model. Two memory slots and maximum of 2GB per memory module.

Yes ... thank you .. I even said that in my first post.
The dell support center USED to say 4gb and NOW it says 8gb.
I also found some sites (http://www.compuram.de/arbeitsspeicher,Dell,Desktop-1-Workstation,Vostro,220-4-+220s.htm ; http://www.speicherbauer.it/memoria/Dell/Desktop-1-Workstation/Vostro/220-4-+220s.htm; and so on) that sell you 8gb
Last but not least the G41 chipset is supposed to support 8gb ram (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/g41-express-chipset.html)
Could somebody that either tried it or works for dell please confirm or deny this ?
I have a Vostro 220s with an E8600 3.33GHZ cpu... I can assure you that YES, you can run up to 8GB of DDR2 Ram... Please note that I am running Bios Version 1.3 on a system motherboard OCKCHX A03.... I think it will also run with Bios 1.2, but not sure on that....
Wish someone would have posted info this for my benefit before I bit the bullet and bought some very expensive Ram on a whim....
