Dell XP Home Edition

The Dell in question is a desktop, is a few years old and is running XP.

When I turn the Dell on, it says it was not turned off properly, and then gives me a list of choices to turn it on with (safe mode, safe mode w/networking, safe mode w/command prompt, last configs., and normal). I have tried all of these.

What happens is that after I pick an option, the computer will go through its Windows loading screen and then it will flash bright blue with a bunch of words. I can't read the words b/c the blue screen of death only lasts for a second. Then it goes to its Dell logo/loading screen and then right back to the orig. screen that gives me the choice to start in safe modes, or normal, or last config.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your time.
