Dell XPS 600 Creative Sound blaster X-fi Platnium- no sound, then crackle After New Install Windows 7
My sound card has no audio after Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate install.
I did a fresh new install on a new hard drive and added 2 gig of memory. I have read that somehow the 4 gig of memory might be a problem with
the sound card, but I can't understand why that would be an issue. My Dell has and Nvidia SLI motherboard with dual GT9800 video cards,
which by the way work fine in Windows 7.
I understand no audio normal, so I went to Creative and download the drivers. So far I have tried 3 different ones.
All I get is crackle, pops, etc. Even my cat got scared and ran out the room from the noise!
The pulled the sound card out and its x-fi #SB0460. On the Microsoft site for windows 7 it says this card is compatible.
I am sure what its compatible with, but so far its not windows 7. I get no errors in Device Manager.
Anybody know the correct driver for this card?
The file name would be great thanks.
Please tell me I don't need a new sound card cause that would suck.

What you are seeing and hearing is typical for SOME model SoundBlaster Xfi's and more than 3GB of RAM. Creative (SoundBlaster) had a Beta driver last year that corrected the problem but the Beta driver is gone.
HERE is the driver that SoundBlaster lists for Win 7 for the SB0460 model. As this is a discontinued model, if that doesn't work you are probably looking at replacing it with a new model that is Win 7 compatible. Creative (SoundBlaster) is not supporting all of the "discontinued" models in Win 7, and you need a Win 7 specific driver.

I tried that driver and it caused my problem.
I have gotten a new SB073A x-fi extreme gamer card and it does the same thing!
I just need a good sound card. I don't mind buying one, but I need it to work!
Any suggestions as to a PCI sound card that works with windows 7 and my Nvidia SLI motherboard.
I have read there are issues with the 4 gig of ram and the motherboard chipset.
Will the Turtle Beach TBS-3300-01 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Montego DDL Sound Card , HT | OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card
or ASUS Xonar D1 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card work?
I really can't seem to find a Sound card built for Windows 7 and in a PCI slot.
I did try the X-fi extreme card, which worked, but not in 5.1, only 2.1, so I returned it.

The Striker 7.1 has Windows 7 32 and 64 bit drivers and is fully compatible. It also has a System Mixer function (what SoundBlaster calls "What You Hear") so you can record streaming audio. I've used one of these cards in Win 7, 64 bit so I know it works (and works well). Out of the ones you listed the Striker 7.1 would be my choice. I don't know about the current Turtle Beach models, but I know there were a lot of problems with the old Turtle Beach cards that Dell used and I've seen some problem posts about the Asus on the Windows 7 forum.
