Dell XPS 8500 memory and video card upgrade

Jump to solution

I had a dell studio 8000 xps with Kingston hyper x fury that works on speeds to 1333-1866mhz. I now own a xps 8500

First issue,I soon found out the Bios A12 is outdated and doesn't let you change the Cas latency to 11-11-11 at 1600mhz speed where I believe the problem is. 10-10-10 at 1600mhz is what my memory says on Kingston's web site
FEATURES
Dual channel available
Capacities of up to 8GB (single) and 8GB–16GB (kits)
Frequency (speed) 1333MHz, 1600MHz, 1866MHz
CAS latency 9-9-9-27, 10-10-10-30 and 10-11-10-30
Voltage 1.5V
Asymmetric heat spreader for stylish heat dissipation
Compatible with H67, P67, Z68, Z77, Z87 and H61 Intel chipsets, as well as A75, A87, A88, A89, A78 and E35 AMD chipsets

Second issues possibly, I bought a MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti DirectX 12 GTX 1050 Ti 4GT OC 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready ATX Video Card. My question is if this is actually going to work in xps 8500.

Second question, did dell fix these issues on their xps 8700/8900 or would I better off to buy a different brand gaming computer that might not have these issues with the hardware I already have for future upgrades? I can return my video card and get one that works with my xps 8500 if there is an issue. Needs to be better than my 2gb 650ti boost at a reasonable price.

All went well with video card upgrade

Xps 8700

Chipset

Intel Z87

Has anyone tried putting my memory in the xps 8700 to see if it's truly compatible?

Does the motherboard on the xps 8700 have M.2 socket?

My buddy upgraded his SSD. He gave me his old 250gb 850 Evo M.2 SSD
