I have a Dell Monitor Model: 240TWFP
It has these connections:
VGA (the new PC doesn’t have this connection)
Then I believe there is one slot that looks like a USB (squeaky lines for names)
Then another 2 slots one on top of the other that look like USB? (2 squeaky lines for names)
What would be the best way to connect my monitor to the new 8930 PC?
Or is there a newer PC Monitor with improved connections that would enhance/speed-up the screen quality I should purchase? (The best at the lowest cost)
I do not see a 240TWFP monitor listed here? Anyway, the monitor will need to connect directly to the added discrete Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 video card port. You will not connect the monitor to the XPS 8930 onboard HDMI port or the onboard DP (DisplayPort).
XPS 8930 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 DP out port --> DP to mDP cable --> Monitor mDP in port
XPS 8930 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 DVI-D out port --> DVI to DVI cable --> Monitor DVI-D in port
First thanks Chris for the reply. I just received the XPX 8930 and it has two cards, I'm still confused? one card has just a DVI-D connection and the other card has, 4 connections, (3) display ports connections and (1) HDMI. First are they both video cards? Then which one would I connect the monitor to for best results? Thanks
DVI-D and the others you mentioned are all video ports.
The XPS 8930 has both on-board video and an add-in video card (add-in NVidia card in your specific system). You should connect the first monitor to the add-in video card. Which port you use depends on what ports are on your specific NVidia card and what's on the monitor. First choice would probably be HDMI from video card to HDMI on monitor. DisplayPort from video card to DisplayPort on monitor would be second choice. Note: The video card probably takes up 2 slots and the DVI-D is also on the video card.
Here's a photo of the rear of the XPS 8930. The add-in video card HDMI and DP ports are in the area marked in green. The onboard video ports are in the area marked in red.
You can read "How do I connect a monitor to a computer?" to identify the types of ports on your NVidia card and monitor and the steps to connect PC to monitor:

Connect the HDMI port on the NVIDIA 1070 using an HDMI cable to an HDMI port on the monitor (if the monitor has an HDMI input). If the monitor has a DVI port (and no HDMI), use connect the aforementioned HDMI cable to a female HDMI/male DVI converter and then connect the converter to the DVI port on the monitor.
