Re: Dell Xps 630 Motherboard.

Has anyone taken out the Master I/O Board. Wonder if there is a switch on there where then everything works. LOL that would be awesome. Turn it on and the fans works lightfx 2.0 works.....hehe....

So far my lights i can change to different colors and the fan works but it wont show the right numbers when you move the sliders. it looks to me that the HDD light does not blink fast but it still blinks when nothing is going on.

Re: Dell Xps 630 Motherboard.

ALL three boards have the same model number yet two boards show different chipsets on the North and South bridge.  How odd.  These also happen to be recently shipped from Dell.  How odd.  Both of the recent boxes also seem to have the same video card set-up.  I suppose DELL could give you two guys a solution.  Perhaps they could "try" to write "software" to change your 750 to 650 when it shows up in CPUZ.  Smiley Very Happy

So Chris where did you go?  Seems like it would not take this long to find out what's going on.

Re: Dell Xps 630 Motherboard.

It would make sense that Dell would use the 750i SLI mobo with a GX2 video card.  Otherwise you wouldn't get the most out of the card.  But that is my issue with the 650 mobo.  I can't upgrade to a GX2 and get a full 16 lane support out of one slot.  That has been my main issue all along (the 8,8,1,1 mobo that can't be changed to 16,1,1).  But 16,16 would be the best resolution to this problem, for using 2 GX2 in 4xSLI mode.

Re: Dell Xps 630 Motherboard.

My 630I was ordered June 25th and delivered the first week of July.  I just ran CPU-Z and it shows I have the 650 Motherboard.

If in fact, some 630i's were shipped with a different Motherboard depending on which graphics card was ordered, this is just plain wrong, and it proves that Dell knows the limitations of the 650 board.  If we would have known this when we ordered, we could have made the decision whether we wanted to pay for a better card to get the better board, but I was not given that choice.  Now, apparently my upgrade options are limited.

When I ordered my 630I, I knew it had the 650 board, and if the 650 board operated as it was advertised, we would have nothing to complain about.

I have been patient up to this point, and have tried to fix the issues myself and work with Dell because I realize that sometimes "stuff just happens" (self edited from what I really wanted to say).

There isn't a "fix" for the motherboard issue however and Dell needs to step up to the plate and make this right like they have done with the 700.  Dell needs to provide an upgrade to the next higher board that meets the advertised specifications and is ESA certified right out of the box, without having to spend countless hours removing and re-installing programs, changing BIOS settings, trying the next "fix", hoping that it will work without screwing up something else, etc.  I don't have the computer knowledge that many on this forum do, but I think the Nvidia 680 would solve our problems and Dell could nip this thing in the bud, before it turns into something bigger.

I have been a loyal Dell customer and have purchased a XPS 1730 Laptop that my wife uses, an Inspiron laptop for my daughter, and now this XPS 630I desktop.  Until now, I have never had a problem with Dell products, and I really hope my faith in Dell will continue.

Come on Dell, do the right thing.
