Are you talking about DBaR (Dell Backup and Recovery)?

If that's what you meant, you must follow these steps to make it work when upgrading to Win 10:

  • You must have DBaR 1.8.x.x running prior to Win 10 upgrade.
Update DBaR until you get to 1.8.x.x.
  • You must then update DBaR 1.8.x.x prior to the Win 10 upgrade. This update will only update the 'updater' components to make the app aware of the OS state.  That's why it's a very quick update.  It just closes when it's done which is why there may be some confusion.  You may think you're updating the entire DBaR to 1.9 when in reality it's only a prerequisite update of a small portion of code.
  • Once this is complete, you can upgrade to Win 10.
  • Once upgraded to Win 10, you should receive another update notification for DBaR 1.9.  This full update will make DBaR fully compatible with Win 10.
  • You cannot update to DBaR 1.9 prior to Win 10 upgrade.

If DBaR 1.9.xx fails to work after installing Win 10, you can download and install it directly from this link.

I all ready had installed Windows 10.  So I downloaed v 1.9.  Installed.  When I try the "Factory Recovery Media"  I get "an error occured during the process" right after Initializing disk starts.  What is really strange when I used an older version that was left  it seemed to work.  I did get 1.9 from the link.

I've pinged my contact at Dell's DBaR team to see if they can help.

Meanwhile, please post here:

  1. Exact PC model you're using
  2. Version of Windows running before you upgraded to Win 10, and was it Home or Pro, or...
  3. Version of DBaR that was left and seems to be working with Win 10

HI MathProfessor,

Was your system originally shipped with Win8.1 or was it upgraded to 8.1?  Also, I need to understand the statement "earlier version that was left".  If all was done correctly, there should only be 1 version (1 entry in control panel -> Programs) and it should be version 1.9.0.22.  If there is anything but that for Dell Backup and Recovery, I suggest you uninstall all and reinstall 1.9.0.22 as before.

If the issue persists, I might need some more help from you to gather logs so we can analyze the error.

Thanks,

Shipped with 8.0.  Upgraded to 8.1.  I removed 1.9.0.22.  And tried a reinstall and I am getting "Factorsetup error 5".  Here is the error log

Got the log and have sent to my team.  In the meantime, can you open a command prompt (admin) and type this exactly:

reagentc /info

Post result please.

Thanks,

MathProfessor,

Sorry for the inconvenience.  Looks like recovery is not enabled.  Should be a simple fix.

Open command prompt (admin) again and type this exactly at the prompt:

reagentc /enable

Should give 'success' message.  Exit CMD, reboot and see if it works now.

Thanks,

Do you still have that "leftover" version of DBaR installed?

August 20th, 2015 11:00

Yes.  How do I remove it?  I just tried to create a recovery disk and 10 will not let me do it.

Very strange.

Start>Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features.

Select Dell Backup and Recovery from the list and click Uninstall.

You might have to delete both versions, if both are listed. If only 1.9 is listed, delete that one. Then reboot and download 1.9 directly from the link in one of my earlier posts and see if that fixes it.

v1.9.0.22 was developed for Windows 10 (tested and validated). You can remove the application as you would any other as stated above.
