Dell studio xps 8000 upgrade

Hi there, i got a dell studio xps 8000 And i would lIke to upgrade it, I want a new graphic card and have been looking on a zotac GeForce gtx770 4gb, but I don't know wether it fits or the motherboard supports it. I want to keep the chassis but any other upgrades willbe great.

If you got any further upgrade ideas or needs I would appreciate it very much.

I got about 1000 dollars to upgrade it.

I currently got a gtx 260 in it and an intel core i7 860 or 870, I cannot remember.

The cooling is inadequate for a high-powered video card and the power supply is marginal. Then again, you could move the motherboard into a third-party case.

Hello PatrickSirich,

Dell Studio XPS 8100 was never tested with the zotac GeForce GTX770. The dimension of this card is 10.5" x 4.38" x 1.38". Hence before purchasing the card, I would suggest you to take the computer to a local store and check if the graphics card work on the system.

Please Note: The  Zotac GeForce GTX770 requires minimum of 600W Power Supply.

Hope this helps!

If your power supply has two 8-pin connectors, it should be adequate for the 770, as the card draws under 250 watts at full gaming load: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-770-gk104-review,3519-25.html

Cooling is another issue, though. Note that the XPS 8000 case has only a single 92mm fan, while gaming cases tend to have several (larger) fans. I moved my XPS 8500 motherboard into a Cooler Master N200 case, and the cooling is vastly improved. (I currently have a single 120mm fan connected and that is to the motherboard case fan header.)
