Dimension 2350- New CPU Fan Problem

I have just installed a new CPU Fan on my Dimension 2350 with XP operating system. When I restarted the computer, it said that no CPU Fan was detected, I can hit F1 and it will go ahead and start-up. Just wondering if this was a BIOS problem or something else that I should do. If anyone can help me on this issue I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Dennis

Apparently you replaced the OEM Dell fan with a non Dell.  The Dell fans have an additional component on the fan that is detected (identified) by the BIOS.  Non Dell fans do not have this component.

Yes, that is what has happened, but how do I get rid of the message.

Thanks,

Dennis

By installing the compatible Dell OEM fan for the 2350.

@to buy the fan/shroud unit, call Dell Spare Parts @ 1-800-357-3355 ext 7269937, M-F 7 to 7 CDT and have system's "Service Tag" handy.

Thanks for your reply, however I tried for way over a month to order this part from dell, and they kept cancelling my order due to not having one in stock, so I did the next best thing and ordered one from E-bay and had it in 3 days. The fan came from a dell system the same as mine. So I thought it would be the same as the one I couldn't get from dell. So surely there has to be a way to get rid of the message.

Thanks,

Dennis

If the fan installed is compatible and you receive 'Alert! Previous Fan Failure. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility ' error message on startup, try this:

1. Restart the system now and press the F2 key as the Blue Dell logo appears.
2. After that the system setup screen will appear, on that screen, go to the "Maintenance" option and then press enter.
3. Under that there is one option for the "Event Log". Select that and press enter. Then select the option “Clear Log”.
4. After that select the option “load defaults”, select the option “Continue”.
5. After that press the "ESC" button from the keyboard and select the option that says "SAVE/EXIT".

But, if you did not install a compatible fan, you'll continue to get the error message, even if event log is reset.

I have had this Cpu problem for the last 6 months, waiting for DELL to get the parts so i can purchase them and avoid the problem of having to deal with that anoying message every time the computer boots up. However DELL never has those fans in stock, why? i don't know and i think it is pretty bad for any body who works for DELL to simply direct you to their parts website when they DONOT CARRY THE FAN!! anymore. I have been trying to buy it from them for the last 6 months and today is April 9 2008. How does anybody from dell respond to that!!!

Now, Ihad to buy the fans from somewhere else and I have the annoying message.

Don't take me wrong, I love DELL but I just cannot beleive they would simply say the solution to the problem is to buy it from them!! How? thay do not carry it!!!#%^&I*$#&

that is a very irresposible approach from DELL

Been there done that also several times, got tired off fooling with them, ordered my off E-bay. I love Dell computers, have 5 of them, but it is getting really hard to get any help if you need a part. Wish it wasn't like that.
