Dimension 4300 memory
I have a dimension 4300 that still works great. I am looking to upgrade the ram. I presently have 2x256 sticks installed. From searching past posts I see that I can upgrade to a max of 2x512 sticks. Upon searching through dell what comes up as recommended ram is a 512mb stick with dell part #A0735477 which they charge $89.99. I did some more searching on dell web site and found a 512 mb stick from SMART technologies that is priced at $49.99. The dell part # is A1226513. It says that it is good for select dimension desktops including the 4300 but they do not give many tech specs on this ram. Would this ram be good for me?

Would totally agree with the above and recommend you go with the Crucial memory, which is almost always cheaper than Dell supplied memory and is guaranteed compatible with your computer. Have ordered from Crucial well over 50 times with 100% success.

When shopping for RAM, I always trust www.crucial.com for both compatibility and lifetime warranty. Check it out?

They do. Shipping costs both ways is another story though.

Thank you both for your comments. I was really trying to uprade my pc, which is over 6 years old, without spending too much money (<$100). I have seen sites on the web that sell this older type memory for cheaper prices but I do want to but from someone who is reputable. Years ago when I upgraded from my original 256MB to 512MB I did buy from Crucial, so I am familair with them.

I still have my 4300 as a back up system. Still running strong after about 7 years. I also changed the memory in that system to 1GB total. I got it from Crucial and have had no problem. So it would run a little over $100 for two sticks of the 512MB RAM. Not too bad.

Are you guys sure you can upgrade a Deminsion4300to 1024MB of RAM although it has two slots I thought it could only go to 512MB

I do remember posts in the past from the many intelligent helpers on these forum pages that the Dim 4300 can handle 1024mb of memory by using 2-512mb sticks. If you also go to www.crucial.com and use their memory selector tool it will tell you the same info. I do not remember any posts saying that is not true. In fact, I am sure if that is not the case, somebody would have said so by now.

The owner's manual for the Dimension 4300 states it can handle up to 2 512MB PC-133 SDRAM modules. Check it out here <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
