Dimension 9200 SigmaTel onboard Sound

Hello, I own a Dell Dimension 9200 Desktop PC but it seems like the Audio Driver isn’t working.

My System:

Windows 8.1

Chipset: intel P965/G965 (current drivers)

Southbridge: intel 82801HH (ICH8DH)

Ram: 5 GB DDR2

CPU: intel core 2 duo e6600

The Audio device should be a sigmatel 92xx but it’s not listed in the device manager. I tried installing the driver manually but it didn’t work. I’v tried the driver included on the Dell support CD with came with the PC and the current driver on the homepage.

 I hope you can help

Roland

If your Dell computer only displays a model code in System Setup program or on the Dell startup screen, use this reference list to determine your computer’s model name.

In 2005, the System Setup program on certain Dell Dimension, Inspiron and XPS computers was changed to display a model code instead of the computer model name. The Resource and Driver CD also lists the computer by the code. Knowing both your computer’s model code and model name is helpful when updating drivers and other software.

The Audio device should be a sigmatel 92xx but it’s not listed in the device manager. I tried installing the driver manually but it didn’t work. I’v tried the driver included on the Dell support CD with came with the PC and the current driver on the homepage.
The drivers are on the Windows 8.1 disk. I have a Dimension 3100 with the same audio hardware, and the drivers installed automatically. Note, however, that they may appear in Device Manager by some other name; if no driver is installed, there will be a yellow warning icon next to the device. The drivers on Dell's site are for previous versions of Windows.

Thanks for your reply. It is good to know that the audio hardware is working with windows 8.1. As I said the device is not listed not even with a yellow warning icon. And the Windows tools to solve such problems are as useless as always. But usually the vista drivers should work with windows 8.1 as well. I will try to reinstall windows.

Install the vista drivers then update the driver automatically.

Also make sure that we are talking about onboard vs the creative card.

(PLS HELP)

i have a inspiron 640m 64bit 2gb ram core 2 duo @2.00ghz and i just installed win 7 ultimate 64 bit  and did the a10 bios and all that but the drivers for audio didn't work-they said no compatible hardware so i find a site that lets them install says it went thru but when i restart it says audio services are not  running -windows audio service) but during installation it says configuring hardware changes or something like that now when i go to device manager iit has only a audio controller but no video but that's the only place that mentions audio besides system devices>system speaker says no driver installed?? shouldn't i have a audio driver near the  top of the list? and shouldn't i have a video controller?

More info

but when i typed in the service tag on the dell website itsays its a e1405 but online most driver sites say (640m/e1405)

i went to bios says audio device sigmantel 9200

i did just get this pc no hdd no ram put a used wd blu 320gb hdd. but i have an identical one ...well basically(xps m140 but hardwere not the same but interchangalble parts
