Dimension XPS 8250 USB port in front panel

I tried numerous times to connect my iPod Shuffle to the USB port on the inside front panel of my Dimension XPS 8250.  I went to the Apple forum and someone suggested to connect the iPod in one of the back ports because it requires a USB2.0.  That solved the problem.  I looked at the manual and it says it is USB2.0.

Would anyone know what the problem might be?

Thanks.

My wife has the 8250 and has no trouble with the ipod hooked up to the front usb ports.  What kind of message did you get?  The rear USB ports are "enhanced" whatever that means.  I think they get more juice for high speed data transfers.  I had a N+ router adapter hooked to the front and I get a message "this device uses high speed data rates" connect to a rear USB port.  The adapter worked in the front and the back but I left it in the back.

By the way what graphic card do you have?  Her 9700pro is starting to go. Thanks.
