Does Dell 4300S suport a gigabyte pci adapter?

I purchased a netgear GA311 and after installation, per the instructions.... I have limited or no connectivity.  Any help would be appreciated.  After checking online one of the resources stated that perhaps it does not support a gigabyte adapter.

The system is 1.5mhz and win xp.  Thanks.

Hi Weeno,

Is there some reason you require a gigabit adapter, as opposed to a regular 10/100 NIC? Few networks support true gigabit speeds, and even if your network supported this, your old desktop would probably not see much of a difference.

Thanks for your response.  It didn't occur to me that there we regular pci's and gigabyte one's... at Staples ($22.99), that was the only one they offered and I needed a new card as my old one required installation disks that I did not have.  Meanwhile....as it turns out, all I needed to do was reset the modem and was able to connect.    Your time to answer my post is appreciated.
