Dual Monitor with Dell Studio 540, ATI Radeon HD 4350, and e152fpb

I currently own a Dell Studio 540 that is using an ATI Radeon HD 4350 as its monitor. I also have a significantly old e152fpb monitor which has a much smaller resolution than my ATI Radeon. I'm a bit of a computer noob, but I know that both of these monitors are VGA. When I plugged the older monitor into the second VGA output on the back of the Studio the computer wouldn't recognize it in the monitor display settings. However, when I unplugged my ATI Radeon and put the E152fpb in it's place the old monitor WAS able to display the image, but when the e152fpb is plugged into the secondary VGA output nothing is displayed. Again, I'm no genius at computers. What am I doing wrong and/or what hardware do I need to make this dual monitor setup? Or is it impossible to dual monitor using a fairly new Studio 540 and a fairly old e152fpb. Please help if possible.

Ummm...the ATI Radeon HD 4350 isn't a monitor. That's your video card. :emotion-5:

You probably need to look at the settings in the ATI Catalyst driver software for settings to enable a second monitor. You may find settings to display the exact same screen on both monitors, and maybe also the option to allow the desktop to be spread across the 2 screens.

If you google around you can find discussions of using this exact video card with dual monitors. Seems to be more discussions about doing it with an HP computer, but the approach should be the same since the settings are in the ATI software.

Ok, I checked ATI Catalyst out and under Display Manager it only shows my monitor, and not the second monitor. My main monitor is connected to my ATI Radeon HD 4350 video card and it works fine. So, being the computer noob that I am, when I saw that there were two VGA connectors on the back of the computer I just attached the second monitor to it. But when I plug the second monitor into the second VGA connector it was not detected. The second VGA I plugged into was not in the video card, it was higher up on the computer under an area labelled "Studio 540". So I guess that's not working. The video card that I have has only 1 VGA, 1HDMI, and 1 DVI. Could I use a converter to attach the second monitor to a DVI or HDMI plug? Again, I'm using a Dell Studio 540, with an ATI Radeon HD 4350 video card, and my second monitor is a fairly old e152fpb. Please help if possible.

DUH! :emotion-2:

Installing the video card in the PCI-e slot probably overrides the on-board graphics and turns off output to that VGA port.

Yes, you should be able to use  a DVI>VGA adaptor to connect the second VGA monitor to the video card's DVI port.. Shouldn't be more than ~$5-$10.

Just make sure you get one with the right "gender" on each side. If the DVI port on the video card is "male", you need an adaptor with a "female" DVI connector and do the same check of gender on the monitor cable too.
