Error code 0600:5127 CABLE - bios Diag interface function was not detected

I'm running a Dell XPS 8700 with Win 7.

It's been having problems waking up from SLEEP mode.

The last few days it refused to boot up after sleep mode.

I ran diagnostics and got this error:

Error code 0600:5127 CABLE - bios Diag interface function was not detected

What is this error and how can I fix it?

THanks,

bob

DL2032 is the coincell battery on the motherboard of most all dells for over 30 years

Thanks, I'm not technical at all. My assumption is that the battery on the motherboard acts as the "power" when the PC goes to sleep allowing the PC to "remember" where you left off? If this is correct, when the battery fails, your PC will not wake properly from sleep mode? Does this make sense?

The battery backs up the contents of the CMOS in case of no power -- however, generally it isn't used unless the power is off AND the wall outlet unplugged or disconnected.  5V power does flow even in sleep mode -- or when the system is powered off but plugged in.

That said, a weak CMOS battery can produce all sorts of spurious error and is the place to start.

The batteries cost as little as 25 cents when purchased in bulk so it's a cheap fix to try.

The CoinCell backs up the Date and time and CMOS settings.  It DOES NOT hold memory for sleep to wake up.  Thats what 5VSB is for.  If you unplug the unit from the wall your sleep mode suspend is lost.  In laptops there are sometimes additional reserve batteries that preserve what is running long enough to swap out a battery.  This is LAPTOPS only not towers.
