GEForce 210 card will not install in an Inspiron 3847 w/ Windows 10 Home

I am aware of a similar post in 2014. However he had Win 8.1.

I tried turning off the UEFI and installing it, to no avail.

It is my understanding that this is a driver rather than a BIOS issue.

I have also tried to install the latest drivers for the above card, with the UEFI off and on, but that also failed.

This is a new machine which came with Windows 10.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Geforce 210 is not supported due to it being a DX9 DX10 card.  Secure boot must be off and Legacy CSM on. The 210 is OPENGL 3.1 DIRECTX 10 CARD.

XP is DX9, Vista is DX10, WIN7 is DX11, WIN8 is DX11.1  WIN10 is DX12.

Nvidia is going to be dropping driver support for a large number of its old graphics cards, including essentially the entire 8-series, 9-series, 100-series, 200-series, 300-series, and one card (the GeForce 405) from its 400-series. This includes mobile and desktop Support for a number of professional workstation products is also being terminated.

Up to and including the release of the GeForce 330, driver users will still be getting driver and game optimizations; however, after this, the party is over. Up until the GeForce 330 SERIES driver in 2016, the company will still be fixing minor driver issues as needed, but these are likely to affect only a small group of people.

WIN 10 Drivers likely do not support the 210 at all.

You also have to install DOTNET and Legacy Directplay along with Directx June 2010.

You download the file. extract to a folder and run the dxsetup.exe file as administrator.

You also have to re enable DOTNET and Legacy Direct play.

Thank you for your very detailed reply SpeedStep.

In what sequence do I implement what you have suggested?

Once I turn the UEFI off , when do I turn it on again, or do I leave it off? The only way I could boot up (before I posted on this forum) w/ the UEFI off and the card installed was to hit F12 and use the Windows Boot Manager.

Get it to boot with UEFI OFF and LEGACY Boot ON with CSM Option Roms ON.

Then install directx and the other features then the older nvidia driver. It will not post with uefi and secure boot on.

Hello SpeedStep,

I did as you suggested and things seem to be working except for one issue -- I cannot boot up normally.

When I bootup I get the following message: Reboot and select proper boot device. So I have to use F12 and the Windows Boot Manager.

The BIOS settings are:  Secure Boot Control Off, Legacy OPROM Enabled and Boot Mode Legacy.

Boot Devices:

1st Onboard NIC device

2nd Internal HDD device

I tried to switch to the second device to no avail

TIA
