GX 260 Motherboard Serial nos 69861-329-07C7; 69861-35A-2477: does anyone know which 845 chipset these are?

Jump to solution

GX 260 Motherboard Serial nos 69861-329-07C7; 69861-35A-2477:

I have been quoted these serial numbers for a couple of mobos which are said to be possibly Intel 845GV chipset boards.

Can anyone guide me through the Dell system to check which chipset these mobos are and confirm that they support Hyperthreaded P4 3.06GHz (or higher?) CPUs. Alternatively, can I find this info on the Intel site?

Any links/comments much appreciated.

There are absolutely 845GL versions of the board.  And the part number is not the determining factor.  Intel ® 845GE/845PE Chipset was 2002 and the HT issues were not ironed out until 2003.

Intel ®  845G/845GL/845GV Chipset revised OCT 2003.

http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/specupdt/29865707.pdf

The REVISION and Date of manufacture is.    The good news is that if you install BIOS A09 and put a 3.06 Ghz HT cpu in it will WORK but HT will remain Disabled.   2003 versions of the board and Reworked earlier versions of the board have the HT ability.   It will show up in bios with A09.  Don't try using newer cpu BEFORE installing A09 bios.

Use XP or DOS to do the update.  There were defective 845 chipsets as well hence the rev B stepping version of the chipset was released by INTEL.  When boards went back for badcaps they were reworked with the newer chipset.  Thats why the revisions are paper stickers.

No Idea what the markings are for the chipset.  You would have to research this over at the intel site.

Hyperthreading is in the CPU AND chipset AND Bios Revision.

0T606, 2X378, 62YVH, 2R433, 4T274

There is very little use or improvement to netburst with hyperthreading.

So some of the boards support it and some do not. 15 year old WIN98SE machines are not worth "upgrading"

Thanks for your comment.

10 year old XP Pro-SP3  machines still do a fine job for word processing, spreadsheets, research and a little gentle surfing!

Missing link: Which 845 chipset is the mobo? (ie: are the 2 serial numbers good for 845GV, or if not which one?)

Serial numbers not equal to features or Identifying Chipset.

0T606, 2X378, 62YVH, 2R433, 4T274

There are More than 5 revisions of the motherboard. XP SP3 is not making 2000 systems Younger.    These systems came with WIN98 and WIN2000.

The information you are asking for is NOT forthcoming and never will be.

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor supporting HT Technology 3.06 GHz, 512K Cache, 533 MHz FSB

SL6JJ, SL6K7, SL6S5, SL6SM, SL6PG, SL6QC works on SOME revisions but not ALL GX260.  My foggy memory says FEB 2003 versions of the GX260 which were BIOS A09 and the last to ever be released support hyperthread.  CHRIS M may be able to verifiy this.

WIN98SE    1999   GX260
WIN2000     2000   GX260
WIN XP       2001   GX260
VISTA          2006   GX620  These are the oldest ones I consider.
WIN7           2009   GX780
WIN8           2012
WIN8.1        2013
WIN 10        2015

Thanks v.much for your further info. I respect your opinion re GX260, even if I must beg leave to differ!

There are a number of suitable CPUs on eBay, eg: "Working Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz 512 533 socket 478 HT CPU Processor SL6PG", which are not expensive.

There are a number of boards offered on eBay, but ideally to avoid a gamble I need to know the chipset. From the photos on the most promising listing  there are 2 mobos which have AGP 4x Slots, which appears to eliminate the 845GL and 845GV variants, so if the serial numbers 69861-329-07C7 and 69861-35A-2477 don't lead to the chipset identification then I guess that the gamble would be that they are not 845/845D, since I believe that the 845E, 845PE, 845G, and 845GE are all HT capable if running XP with the ACPI dual core driver installed and HT enabled in the Rev A08 or A09 BIOS.

Any further thoughts would be gratefully received.

Thanks again for your support.

Since the parts guide lists all of these 845G I would have to disagree than 845G does HT.

There must be some kind of Revision in the Stepping of the Chipset that works or not when you update to BIOS A09.  Thats too far into the weeds for me to know for sure as I am NOT Dell or Dell engineering.
