Geforce 6800 - Frequency Out Of Range

I have an approximately 2 month old Dimension 8400.
 - Windows XP Home
 - 1 Gb RAM
 - Soundblaster Live
 - nVidia Geforce 6800
 - Dual analog monitors

Other than experiencing the occasional stuttering/skipping reported on this forum, all had been working fine until last night.

When I booted my system it appeared to boot up normally until it got to the point of the Windows Welcome screen.  Rather than seeing the Welcome screen both monitors displayed a message saying "Frequency out of range".  I think the system continued to boot up as I heard the Windows startup sound.  However, I couldn't see anything on the monitors.  I had never experienced this problem before.

I shut down the system, disconnected one of the monitors and rebooted.  The system rebooted into Windows but the resolution was at 640x480 and the color was only 4 bit.  The system display properties would not allow me to change either of these settings.

My first thought was my graphics driver was corrupted so I reinstalled the NVidia graphics drivers I downloaded from the Dell web site.  After reinstalling the drivers I was able to boot up and change the display properties back to my normal settings as well as reconnect my 2nd monitor.  Things appeared to be back to normal.

However, I began to notice strange sounds coming from my speakers.  Whenever I moved my mouse pointer around the screen I would hear a faint clicking sound coming from the speakers (kind of like static).  I also noticed that when I used the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll up or down in a document or page I would hear a "squeaking" sound from the speakers.  It literally sounded like a squeaky wheel!

I even tried installing the Omega NVidia driver but am still experiencing the strange sounds problem.  I had never experienced any of these sound  problems before my problem with the graphics card.

Also, a couple different times later in the evening one of the monitors would suddenly click and the screen would flash off and then back on.  Almost like it stopped receiving a signal for a split second.  Am now beginning to wonder if I have a faulty graphics card.

I apologize for the "wordy" explanation of the problem I am experiencing but wanted to be as complete as possible in hopes that someone might be able to help me correct this problem.

Any assistance anyone might be able to provide will be greatly appreciated.

Reseat the Video card, if the problem still continues call tech support and have it swapped out under warranty.

try the drivers from nvidias website, they might be better.

and frequency out of range means the khz, resolution or something like that is to high or low, i did that to one of my schools pcs by setting the res to 2048x1500 or something like that and got that message, stayed in the middle of the screen and booting wouldnt help, got outa there fast. there should be a way to fix it, the school did.

i would probably play the warrenty card now, itl be esiar.
