HD4870 on Dimension 9150/XPS400

Jump to solution

I bought a new HD4870, and i tryed to put it in my 9150. And its not working, PC starts, coolers run, diagnostic lights show ( 2  4 ) something with graphic card. I thought that PSU is too weak, and bought 500W, and its still not working...

Any Ideas???

P.S.Tomorrow I`m gonna try that card in another PC.

Just curious, as I also have a 9150 and am in the market for an upgrade...  I was hoping you could tell me if you had any problems finding a video card that will physically fit in the space in a 9150.  I'm worried that there's not enough room with that giant cpu fan block in the way...  Anyway, thanks in advance

I am also planning to install a HD4870 in my Dimension 9150.

What about space, heat, power and motherboard BIOS (upgrade) ? What are your experiences ?

With my dell xps 9150, i found that it helped within a certain degree.  Don't expect a whole new computing experiance, as the Pentium D does not offer up enough to keep the 4850 well fed (let alone the 4870).  I had at the time a 3.0 ghz Pentium D with 2 gigs of ram, and it wasn't cutting it for games like team fortress 2 or Left 4 dead.  All other games worked remarkebly well, but if I had to do it all over again i would suggest a much cheaper card, perhaps a 4830 or even a 9800gt.   A 4850 is good, but too good for my old dell.

My suggestion if you already bought a 4870 is to just buy a new computer to go with it 🙂

Thank you for your answer.

I agree with you, unfortunately I am doing this for a freind and already ordered the HD4870 - so I am currently more concerned whether it will actually work with the XPS9150 or not. I will also replace the PSU. The previous card was a dated 7800GTX, so I would expect some improvement in performance.
