Help saving old reel to reel recordings

Don't know what I'm doing. I have a reel to reel 7in, tape recorder with tapes from the 60's. how can I transfer from that to my desktop and put on a disk?  what hardware? what software ? What else? I have a Dell with windows 7 home premium, use internet explorer.

Nice question! What type of reel to reel do you have exactly, part number, name?

RE: Help saving old reel to reel recordings

(If I don't answer - gone to work) I would either buy one of these or make one up:

Twin Male 1/4" Mono Jack to Stereo 1/8" 3.5mm Jack Cable

If you google the above line you'll see a connector that you could connect to the "Phones" sockets at the bottom right hand corner of the tape recorder. The other end will go to 3.5mm input of your computer. There will be more to do, but tell me what you think of that, have you got that connection?
