Inspiron 3847, SSD support?

I have an Intel 540s series 480gb ssd drive however my Dell Inspiron 3847 wont see it. Dell cant seem to tell me if it is compatible. Would anyone be able to let me know if it is and if so how to enable it.

I do not see any SSD's on the Inspiron 3847 parts page. This means that Dell never tested them on this model. All I see are SATA3 7.2K HDD's (2TB, 1TB, 500GB).

Where won't the PC see the SSD? In BIOS setup or in Windows? (What version of Windows?)

Did you connect both a data cable and a power cable to the SSD?

How is the SSD connected to the motherboard? Are you connecting it to the SATA0 port that was previously used by the HDD?

If you're using a different SATA port, did you look in BIOS setup to see if that SATA port is enabled?

That's odd. I have a 3847 with a 730 installed. My PC immediately recognized it and I ran the included Acronis software to transfer all files without issue. The same can be said for my nine year old Inspiron 518. It has a 520 installed (older than yours) and it installed and migrated files seamlessly.

What operating system are you using? When I installed the SSDs, the 518 was using Windows 7 and the 3847 was using Windows 8. Both are now running Windows 10 Anniversary Edition without issue.

Good troubleshooting both of you. Hopefully the OP will reply back.
