Inspiron 518 Windows 10 error code 5300:021c

On startup monitor shows everything normally up to the little blue window and rotating dots, then goes blank. In F12 testing monitor shows everything normally for hours at a time. Comes up with error code 5300:021C. Video hardware test says VESA SVGA VIDEO.  Anyone know how to repair this?

Hi,

I would ask you to perform a little more of troubleshooting so that we can get more clarity on this,

*Confirm if the same issue was seen with windows 8.

*Before updating to windows 10 were all the drivers updated. We ask the customers to ensure that the drivers are updated before updating to windows 10.

*Check if the same issue is seen in safemode with networking. If the issue is not seen in safemode then its a software issue.

*Also initiate LCD self test ,disconnect the VGA cable then check if the solid colored tables are seen on the screen.

Awaiting your response with the result of the test.

Regards,

This was updated from windows 7 and worked fine for some time before this problem came up. I have not figured out how to start this in safe mode. Would like t try that  Also do not know what LCD self test is.   Ken

The error is due to video drivers not being installed. You currently are using the FAIL SAFE Default video driver.

There is no more F8 safe mode with Windows 8.1 or 10.  Newer Video cards DO NOT SUPPORT DOS VESA modes and therefore may not work at all with diagnostics.  WIndows 7 and 8 and 10 do not support older WDDM 1.0 drivers and therefore absolutely current drivers will not support Legacy  Directx 9, 10,  11 cards.

You have to install Directx June 2010 patch,  restore legacy direct show in control panel,  restore legacy DOTNET 2.0 3.5 and install legacy VISTA or WIN7 drivers when there are no such drivers for your card in WIN8 or 10.
