Inspiron 530 CPU upgrade

I want to upgrade the current Celeron 450 at 2.2 GHz. It has the 0RY007 motherboard. I want to upgrade to at least a dual-core CPU. I've found so many mixed results online as to what would work. Can anyone give me a definite list of CPU's that will work?

Hello jawshewah,

Welcome to Dell community Forum

With the Motherboard and PSU on the computer these are the Processors which I woudl suggest

Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8500, 3.16G

Conroe Kit, E6750, 2.66G, 4MB, 1333FSB

Conroe Kit, E6850, 3.0G, 4MB, 1333FSB

Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8500, 3.16G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W

Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8400, 3.0G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W

For these processors you do not have to change the Motherboard or the PSU

Assuming that you have a Inspiron 530 Mini Tower and not the Slimline version.

Prior to installing the processor, check that BIOS Version 1.0.15, or higher is installed, when support for new Intel CPU's was added.

Processors are backwards compatible.

Bev.

Thanks for the quick answer. I'm pretty knowledgeable about computers..but this stuff just confuses me. Can you tell me why those would work when the FSB on my current CPU is only 798?

Hello jawshewah,

Sorry to reply back Late.

The Chipset which is Intel G33 and ICH9 on the Motherboard support 1333/1066/800 FSB So the Processor which you have now will work on the computer as the chipset supports it.

Also, The above mentioned Processors will also work

Cheers
