Inspiron 530 XP pro to Windows 10 pro

Currently I have the G33m02 Foxconn motherboard. It has the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @2.20GHZ 4GB RAM. The XP Version is 32 bit. This is a Inspiron 530. What is needed as far as hardware to install Windows 10 Professional at 64 bit? Basically trying to get as close to current as possible without buying a new computer.

Windows 10 should run just fine on that system - it won't be a fast performer (and note it'll need a clean install, as there is no direct upgrade path to WIndows 10).

Check to make sure your external peripherals (printer, scanner, all in one, etc.) have WIndows 10 support - or you may be in for other hardware purchases.

It will run Windows 10 just fine. You can download the .iso from Microsoft and perform a clean install without a product key to assess how Windows 10 runs for yourself before buying it.

An SSD will improve performance considerably.

You can do a clean install of 64 bit windows 10.   There is ZERO direct upgrade path from XP to 10.

There are also  ZERO 32 to 64 bit upgrades for ANY version of windows only clean install.

You will want to get at least a radeon 5450 video card.

RE: Inspiron 530 XP pro to Windows 10 pro

My all in one is working fine on Windows 10 on another computer. I just want to upgrade my old computer as a back up to it. We recently had lightening hit the house and it had taken out the motherboard on the old one. I bought a new computer thinking the motherboard was more expensive than it was. Then I bought the motherboard for the old one and installed it. I just want to upgrade it as we all know you can't update a lot of programs that ran on XP as they are now beyond support under the OS.

My Inspiron 530 MT, with a Core 2 Duo E8600 processor and G33m02 Foxconn motherboard, was upgraded to Win 10 64-bit and have no issues.

After the upgrade, installed an SSD drive and has really made a big difference to the 530's performance.

Bev.

RE: Inspiron 530 XP pro to Windows 10 pro

Since BIOS only has RAID or IDE mode, how are you setting the SSD? Drivers for RAID mode are nowhere to be found.

I had Windows 7, upgraded to 8, 8.1 and then 10. At one point, I had an SSD and was able to set it up in RAID mode. But tried to install Win10 from scratch on another SSD and could not get it working under RAID mode.

Any ideas what drivers to use?
