Inspiron 530 and HD 2600 XT
I purchased a standard Inspiron 530. I would like to upgrade the video card but I read on the web that some of them will not work because of weak PSU of my inspiron.
Please can you say to me if this card is compatible with my system ?
Best regards.
Fabri.

You should not have any problems running that card on your system.

Hi there,
if you can stretch to £120 for a card then I recommend the Radeon 4850 - it's absolutely stunning! Had one running in my system for a few months now with no problems.

Hi joker197, You could put in the ATI HD 4550 or the 8600GT.

Do you have the Inspiron 530 and are you running the 350W or 300W power supply or did you upgrade this? What brand 4850 do you have? I thought about getting this card in the future and I know XFX has just jumped over to making the 4850 now. They were exclusively Nvidia before but now make the ATI 4000 series.

The HD 2600 XT is pretty much equal to an 8600 GT and both are ahead of the HD 4550. Do you know what size power supply you have? This would determine how high you can go. The I530 would come with a 350W PSU if you have the quad core processor or a 300W (I believe) with the duo core. The HD 4850 is certainly a good card, but I would not put it on a 300W power supply.

How can I know what size is my PSU ? I however think this is the more "standard".
I can read Core 2 DUO E4500.
So, do you think initial choice would be the best: HD 2600 XT ?

Your PSU is most likely 300 watts with the Core 2 Duo. If you want to know for sure, just open up the side of your case. There's a sticker right on the side of the PSU that will give you this information. Therefore, stay with the HD 2600 XT.

Hi,
I got and install HD 2600 XT card, Sapphire brand.
I installed driver card correctly, I think: take a look at this:

However, when I try to install CATALYST driver (driver that came with card as well as last version from ATI.com) an error stop installation:

I tried various workaround googling on the web but I cannot install CATALYST suite.
Can you help me please ?
Vista 32 bit SP1.
Thanks.

Make sure you have your card registered online with ATI and then call their complimentary tech support at 877-284-1566. Since I do not know what you have tried, I am not sure what to recommend. BTW, your first link does not work.
