Inspiron 530 upgrade issues
Hello! I am having some problems with upgrading a zotac gtx 650 2 gb video card into my Dell Inspiron 530. I have upgraded the power supply to a corsair 430 cx bronze certified, the zotac card doesn't have any power plug (either 6 or 8 pin) on the card so all of the power has to come from the pci-e slot. The card is supposed to be backward compatible from pci-e 3.0 to 1.0 yet every time the driver installation has to restart to finish, it crashes and then I can only go in safe mode.
The bios was version 1.0.18 when we bought the pc. Originally came with e4600 dual core cpu, I have upgraded it to e8400. Running windows vista 32 bit with 4 gb ram. Motherboard is Foxconn G33M02.
I have disabled the onboard video, set the pci-e in the bios, made sure the card is properly seated in the slot, removed all the drivers when attempting to install again, but it still crashes. Could it be that the power supply is still not enough to run the card?
Any help would be appreciated, as I don't know what is wrong.
Thanks!

Hi libby2013,
The Zotac GTX 650 card has a 6 pin power connector.
If you face any issues locating the power connector on the card, you may refer to the link http://bit.ly/1hhfKEv.
The pictures for the card shows the 6 pin power connector located on the top when the card is connected to the PCI slot.
Connect the power cable to ensure proper power is supplied to the card.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further assistance.

Thanks for replying Kuldeep!
Unfortunately, no. the Zotac card I have has no pwer plug, it is to receive all from the pci slot. http://www.zotacusa.com/geforce-gtx-650-synergy-2gb-zt-61010-10m.html is the model that I have. I have found that their cards only support pci-e from version 1.1 and am wondering now if I do the latest chipset update from dell driver download http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-530?driverId=VNN60&osCode=WLH&fileId=2731106651&languageCode=en&categoryId=CS will this upgrade my pci-e to 1.1? Or is the 1.0 proprietary and unable to change?
If you have any ideas, would like to hear them!
Thanks!
Todd

Hi Todd,
Installing the chipset driver will not be able to able to upgrade the version for the PCI slot.
Although, PCI Express 3.0 is backward compatible with most of the previous versions, it may or may not work on PCI Express 1.0.
You may try to update the system BIOS from the link http://dell.to/1cquALm and see if it works. Also try reseating the card once to check for any connection issues.
Refer to the link http://dell.to/176grvH for steps on how to update the BIOS.
Dell has not tested this card or any other PCIe 3.0 card with this system.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further assistance.
