Inspiron 530s - Noisy start up of PC

-I just bought the new Dell inspirion 530s and when i switch on the pc , it gives a very loud motor sound and thereafter it is ok.

I called the helpdesk and they told me it is the fan speed and it is a new technology to help the sytem cool down? In my last 5 yrs with my older Dell version , I didnt hear such sound before.

It is normal for the fan to run really fast for the first second or two and then slow down.

Now, if the fan continued to run fast (didn't slow down after a second or two), that would not be normal.

On my none Dell system, it does the same thing, and if the temps raise, it will speed up for a bit as well

FWIW the fan in my E510 also runs fast on boot up.

SR45, are you back to 3.0GHz?

"E8400 3.0 Ghz"

I'm still holding strong at 4.0GHz.  I was wondering what SPP and MCP voltages you are running and what your temps are.  Maybe you should DCF message me if you are interested so that we can avoid hijacking another thread.

Yes ty_ger.  Put in some Corsair DDR2 1066 mhz memory, and will do a new install of my recent purchase of the Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP-1 OS Tuesday and start over again.

5150Guy....

I strictly use the Bios for all overclocking.  Too many issues with nTune as reported by many on other forums.

Ty-ger or SR45,

What do you use to OC your machine?

Fireberd,

I must have a real odd-ball, the only time I can get my fan to speed up at all is to run Spybot Search & Destroy. However, I might be using my system differently then most people, I never leave power connected to my machine when it is off. So, when I start my machine I apply power and immediately hit the power button.

But, when I have a 530 on my bench, they act exactly as stated here. The new Gateways generally act the same way. I believe the reason for it is, full power momentarily goes the the fans until the controllers can stabilize them to the right voltage level.

5150guy, I have upgraded the CPU in my E510 from the original D820 to the D925, it may generate more heat during startup (?)  I don't recall it doing it with the old D820.  I reused the Dell heatsink/fan when I upgraded the CPU, which is adequate for the nrew CPU as I haven't had any overheating problems.  Most of the time the CPU fan just runs at "normal" speed (almost inaudible).

I have orderer another 530s and it arrived today! My first one is so nick that I ordered another one of the same! I set up and it works flawlessly, but the fan is kind of annoying me.

I know about the noise when you start up the computer and that's ok. Mine, after start up I can still hear the noise quite strongly, differently from my old one. It keeps alternating the noise, getting stronger and back every few minutes, even with the computer idle.

The BIOS is updated to 1.0.13 which should solve this problem but it doesn't. It is already more than 8pm and I cant call support, any ideas ?????

Thanks so much in advance!

Dell suprort isnt bad at all. I have used it many times on behalf of customers and myself as well, always satisfied. I have requested Install CD sets for machines that are far off warranty, I get no arguements and I get them free, receive them within 3 days. I tried that with eMachines and they laughed me off.

I'm sure not all people will have the perfect experience, but they have been the best of my experiences.

I like Dell.

My 530 began making a straining mechainical noise at startup and Dell chat gave me a link to upgrade the BIOS, now it is quiet.
