Inspiron 546 audio troubles
I just bought a Inspiron 546 has AMD x2 2.80Ghz, Via Vinyl audio. heres the problem.
I route my xBox through my Back mic port, and unmute it so it'll play through my head phones. Thats worked fine (headphones plugged into front panel) well, after today, I lost sound from my front port. if I unmute my mic I can hear my 360, or my voice, but no other sounds. To make matters worse, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers using the Disk that CAME WITH THE DELL, and it said it couldn't find the proper hardware!
So now I'm stuck moving my tower around and plugging my headset into the back of the tower to get sound to my headphones, front mic input still works, but not the headphones.
since I can't install the drivers CD that came with the Dell, I can't get the audio card manager program to work, so I can't tell if it's that problem or not.

Hi This is Arslan,
Your Computer has a Integrated VIA VT1708-s audio codec, But as you said that the rear ports is working fine and the audio port is not, there is a possibility that the Front audio ports are damaged, so why dont you Call Dell Tech Support, they will check the software properties and if it is fine, they will just run an audio test for the front panel and onc it fails, they will replace the whole front panel with audio cables if your computer is still under warranty......Number to Call : 18006249896.

As it worked and now does not, the first thing to try is the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date when it did work. If you installed or uninstalled something, intentionally or unintentionally that MAY fix it. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.
I seriously doubt that the "front ports are damaged". On new audio systems, the ports are now sensed by the sound module, they are not mechanically switched like older PC systems. If the System Restore does not fix it, check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound for the Playback device setup.
The Dell downloads for the 546MT are HERE (you didn't specify if you have a 546MT or a 546ST).
