Is upgrading from 3gb ram to 4gb ram in Vista 32-bit worth it?
As the subject states, I currently have 3gb of ram in my Inspiron 530, running Vista 32-bit.
I have read that 32-bit Operating Systems will not recognize or allocate all of 4 gigs.
has anyone upgraded from 3 gigs to 4 gigs, and noticed any improvement?
I primarily use my computer to play computer games such as Lord of the Rings online, and to stream video from netflix and hulu.com...

I added 2gb to my system, to get 4gb, but it only recognized 3.25.
You have to subtract the size of the video card ram from the 4gb limit, and thats what achivable. With my 768mb card, i can only get 3.25gb ram.
Going from 3->3.5, 3.75, probably not worth it, easier to disable a few start up programs and shut down other programs before running games, than install that little ram. even if you went from 3->3.75 which would be about as good as you could hope for, its only adding 25% more ram. usually youll want to add at least 100% before you see a major difference (IMHO)

I have a Dimension C521 and went from the 2 Gigs that were shipped with purchase, then went to 4 Gigs and saw a noticable difference.
Just a Vista 32 bit system, but it went well!

If you run Vista the more the better, check out http://www.crucial.com for memory, they are cheaper than Dell....

You will see little to no difference. But if you do then you are loaded up if you decide to move to a 64 bit system, and since ram is pretty cheap these days its not much of a waste.
