Maximum RAM on Optiplex 760

How can I find out what is the maximum RAM I can have on Optiplex 760?  Is it 8GB or 16GB?

I have seen there are upgrade memory modules advertised of 4GB (2gb x 2) and 8GB (4GB x 2) so now I am confused as to how can this be possible.

Currently, I have 4GB on my system and wondered if I can top it up to the maximum possible on this system - to 8GB but would also consider 16GB if this is possible..

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

The easiest way to find out is to go to www.crucial.com and let it scan your pc and tell you what you have and need.

This is from the 760 manual in Dell support.

Addressing Memory Configurations

If you are using a 32-bit operating system such as Microsoft® Windows® Vista®, your computer will support a maximum of 4 GB of memory. If you are using a 64-bit operating system, your computer will support a maximum of 8 GB (2-GB DIMMs in each of the four slots) of memory.

I just tested it and shows that the max it is set to handle is 8GB of ram.  I just went to crucial.com, which has a quick scan, and it says that 8GB is the max it can handle.
