Missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys file

When I boot up my PC (Dimension 2350, WinXP Home) I get the following error message. Has anybody got any idea how to fix it?

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Many thanks,

Alex

asbowen,

This article from MSKB will tell you how to replace that missing file on your computer from the Windows XP CD.

Thanks Steve however this talks about SP2 and from looking in the C:\windows\driver cache\i386 directory and being unable to locate sp2.cab I can only assume that SP2 isn't installed. I've tried it anyway (making backups of files to replace and using the files from SP1.cab) but this doesn't give me any joy.

Thanks,

See if the procedure here works for you.

Thanks for the reply however this fails to work either. Is this problem worth me trying a format etc.

Thanks,

Alex
