Motherboard LED stays on

Jump to solution

I have an OptiPlex 3010 small form factor computer with WIN 7 Pro and  8 GIG of Ram.  I noticed that when the computer is turned off and I look inside through the rear vents I can see an orange glow. The glow comes from the front lower part of the CPU. I have not taken the cover off to look inside. To do that I would unplug the computer. I am sure that would turn off the orange light. Any explanation? Is it OK? It seems to me that as long as the light is on, I am drawing power. Is this causing a problem?

It's normal.  There is always 5V power flowing to the board when the system is plugged in (even if it's powered off).  There is an LED on the mainboard that glows as long as power is supplied to the system - you're likely seeing its reflection.
