NVIDIA GeForce GTX295

I have a XPS710.  It's currently running dual GeForce 8800.  Will this machine run one GeForce GTX295?

I don't see why not as long as you have the power to run it...I believe around a 700 watt power supply and around 50 amps or so.  It also needs the 8-pin and 6-pin connection.  It is obviously a good card, but I would do a little research to make sure it is worth the upgrade over your current SLI setup.  Based on what I have seen, an 8800 GT SLI setup doesn't fall too far behind a GTX 280 SLI setup which beats the GTX 295 running alone by a bit.

I have to agree with what been said above.

A pair of 8800GT's running in SLI should be able to handle any game with ease, so why are you considering an upgrade to a G295?

Is it just that you like to stay at the cutting edge?

One of the 8800's went bad and needs to be replaced so I thought I would upgrade as high up the food chain as I could and stay ahead of the curve.  It's looking like there are power issues with the GTX295 and the XPS710 so I think I'll just get a new 8800 and keep the original configuration.

Thanks for the help

I just put a 295 in my 710.  Needed a 6 to 8 pin adapter.

I got this one:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812198018

I am also using an HDMI cable to my Benq E2400HD and it looks fantastic.

I am however visiting these forums cause it locks up on COD4, Mirror's Edge after about 10 minutes of game play on Max settings.  1900x1080.  Freezes the entire machine with the annoying locked up sounds.

I am starting to think that the PSU needs to be replaced.. but... I had a Crossfire 1950 setup and an Physx card in my rig and went down to the one GTX295 with internal Physx.  I would think the 750PSU could handle it.

I found a Thermaltake PSU @ 850 that will work on both an ATX and BTX (xps710) motherboard.  Just not to thrilled about the cost and the work invloved in replacing the PSU.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You really ought to have started your own thread... but now that you've hijacked the OP's thread:

1.  Assuming it's a known quality brand, a 750w PSU is more than capable of handling a G295 and a PhysX card:emotion-55:

2.  Are you using the latest drivers available on the Nvidia website?

3.  Have you installed the game patches available for both games (there's one available for Mirror's Edge as well)?
