Need Help Video Card Upgrade for Dell Optiplex 755 Desktop Chasis?

Hi Everyone,

My son likes to game. The power supply in my dell optiplex 755 desktop chasis shows 280 watts.

What video card can i get that the power supply can handle? Also from what i understand i can get a full height video card. The adapter is vertical not horizontal as in my optiplex 745.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Would i have issues with blowing my psu?

At dell technical support they were recommending the ati radeon hd 2400 xt.

So with either of your cards i would be fine? When i type how my system is speced out at: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine it shows 279 watts psu recommended for the 512mb radeon hd3650 and 268 watts for the nvidia 8500gt.

Im sure if it is 10 watts over my psu it would not really be an issue.

So do you recommend one over the other?

I am not sure what games you are looking to play, but with that power supply I would not go beyond the Nvidia 9500GT or the ATI Radeon HD 3650.  Both cards are pretty much equal.  I really would not recommend anything under these two cards for any type of gaming.   Power consumption would be about the same for both cards which would be less than 200 watts for the entire system.

The HD 3650 is superior to either the HD 2400 XT or the 8500 GT.

Appreciate your help JMICHAEL. I will go with the hd 3650. It is not too expensive and is very good. My son should be happy.

I have the exact same system and i hav run both 9500gt and 9600gt. Currently i have an ati 4770 and it works like a charm.
