Need Nvidia card to replace Intel HD card for Inspiron 3847
I need suggestions on which type of Nvidia card I would need to replace the integrated Intel HD card. I see all types of Nvidia cards but have no idea which one would be perfect for my computer. I basically want something powerful (doesn't have to be over the top) but powerful enough to run games found on Steam and online flash gaming without being sluggish. I'm looking for a card that's relatively cheap as I can't afford anything over $100. It seems like my integrated card can't keep up with the smallest tasks.
Keep in mind I know nothing about overclocking and all those other technical terms. I know how to install a card into a computer and get it working, but knowing anything actually about them is another story. All I know about what my computer is is that it has Windows 8.1, 12gb DDR3, 64-bit, and Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz with Intel HD 4600. But for the life of me the integrated graphics are slow and I can't figure out why.

The 300w power supply limits your video card choices. See this thread.

This is the card that I use in mine with the stock Power Supply.
You cannot fit 12 inch long cards into the case.
EVGA 02G-P4-3751-KR G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card, should work fine with the default 300w PSU.

HOWEVER with windows 8 you will have to F2 F2 F2 turn Secure Boot UEFI OFF and turn LEGACY BOOT ON and reinstall the OS from scratch.
Neither card works in secure boot UEFI mode.

I want NVIDIA not Raedon. I need suggestions for that. And I need something UNDER $100. The highest I'm able to go is about $79. Anything beyond that is beyond my budget unfortunately. I don't need anything too demanding and powerful. Just something I can use to get away from the integrated graphics.
I was originally looking at this card:

Most of those are for Radeon cards. I'm looking for a Nvidia card. This one is a GT 730. The ones you listed on that thread are older.

That GT 730 card has a 64bit memory interface ... it will be slower than your built in Intel graphics at 3D games.
here is the 128 bit memory interface version of the card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487055&ignorebbr=1

Color me confused. The one you suggested says 128-bit, but with DDR3. The one I was looking at is 64-bit with DDR5. Wouldn't DDR5 be better than 3? Also, I don't understand the difference between 64bit and 128. I thought I was supposed to go with 64 because my machine is a 64bit machine.

A quick google search revealed that GDDR5 is indeed better than DDR3 regardless of bit. Guess I'll take the chance and try it regardless. Can't be any worse than using integrated graphics which seep off internal memory. At least with a graphics card it will have it's own memory.

Thanks for the guidance. A few more questions:
1. Win 8 comes pre-installed. How do I reinstall from scratch with out discs?
2. Can I turn UEFI mode back on later or it has to stay in Legacy Mode for life?
3. If the answer to the above is No, is there any downside to staying in Legacy mode?

think of the memory interface (64bit vs 128 bit) as an access road between your GPU and it's video ram (VRAM). it doesn't matter how fast that video ram is if the GPU can only get to it at half the speed.
you will get much better performance with a 128bit card ...

128 BIT CARDS are 3X to 5x FASTER than 64 OR 32 bit cards. This has to do with how data gets to the 256 bit GPU. 64 bit cards have to clock 4X to get 1 word of data to the gpu. This is a gross oversimplification because GPUs are not single core single thread processors. GDDR3 is 27 percent slower than GDDR5 and means less than that based on actual performance.
The amount of ram on the GPU also comes into play because of Turbo Trash on NVIDIA and HyperJunk on ATI. Up to 2 gigs of ram can be stolen from the system to support this. Because ram is cheap vendors will often put 1 gig or more ram on a GPU but 1.5 gigs can be 10X faster than 2 gigs or more because of the interface being 256 BIT or 384 BIT or 512 BIT.
The WIDTH of the interface counts more than the speed or size of the ram unless you are talking about 4K video in which case you need 3 gigs or more of GPU ram to support that resolution.
