New pcs slow

Hi

Two brand new Optiplex pcs are slower than previous Optiplex pcs when running network intensive database app.

One difference with these new pcs is that instead of the usual Broadcom NICs these new ones have realtek PCIe GBE Family NICs. Could this be an issue?

What can I do to try to speed up the pc?

Thanks

Regards

Seems that the 2 responses posted in this thread disappeared...

Someone else asked how much RAM is in the new PCs.

I asked: What exact PC models and the version of Windows? Do you have the latest version of BIOS, latest chipset drivers, NIC drivers etc of this model? And if you've looked at the NIC settings in Device Manager (Advanced options) to make sure they're set correctly/optimally for your network?

Hi

Both PCs are OptiPlex 3050 Small Form Factor (S018O3050SFF), RAM 8GB each. Win 10 pro 64 bit. All drivers and BIOS as pre-installed by Dell. I have tried disabling a few settings in NIC's advanced options but so far no luck.

Thanks

Regards

One more thing...check to make sure that the total amount of physical memory installed (8 GB) is detected in BIOS setup and see how much of it is available in Win 10. (Press Win+X keys and then click System on the menu that pops up.)

Is the database on a local network or somewhere out on the internet?  Is your comparison to the speed of the previous PC based on systems running the same version of Windows (eg Win 10), and the same version of some database software?

How much unnecessary stuff is running in the background on the new PCs? Things like McAfee and Norton tend to slow PCs down. Things like Adobe (Reader) Updater don't have to run in the background and can be disabled. Also look in Task Manager to see if anything is using a lot of CPU time, aside from System Idle Process.

Go to Dell's Support page for this model and enter the Service Tag and let it look for updated drivers for the system. Download and install the updates. Then reboot and see if that helps...

The comparison is like for like. I will check those things. However one peculiar thing is that for the first time dell site could not auto detect tag which it always was able to for previous pcs.

It can sometimes take up to ~14 days after a PC is shipped before the Service Tag is recognized by their Support system. So check on the Service Tags from time to time. If the Tags don't eventually get recognized, you will have to contact Dell Tech Support.

In the meanwhile, you can manually look for updated drivers, assuming you know exactly what hardware you have  so you get the right drivers for each system.  You can compare the version number of installed drivers with those listed on the Support page for each piece of hardware to see if you need to update.  Read and follow instructions to update each driver that you want to install.
