Hello all,

Glad to find out about this community and hope I can get some answers here. Is there ANY video card out there that would allow me to watch footage that was shot in 1080p on my old Dell Dimension 2400? Your help is much appreciated here.

Hi GAPY,

Dell Dimension 2400 system board does not come with AGP slot or PCIex16 slot. You will have to look out for PCI Video cards but most of the cards are low profile cards. You will not get 1080p FHD resolution.

SVIDEO is Analog TV 525 Lines NTSC so 1080P HD is not happening on Svideo.

(480i) is the shorthand name for a video mode, namely the US NTSC television system or digital television systems with the same characteristics. The i, which is sometimes uppercase, stands for interlaced, the 480 for a vertical frame resolution of 480 lines containing picture information; while NTSC has a total of 525 lines, only 483 of these are used to display the image.

If HD video playback is your goal, I suggest this. It should support 1080p through the HDMI connector.

ATI does not support DirectX Video Acceleration on their PCI cards, so the card you linked to is not a good choice.

That's not an S-Video port on the back of the card; it's an HDTV-out port, which supports component up to 1080i. However, due to ATI's policy of disabling DXVA on their PCI cards, a much stronger CPU than that of the Dimension 2400 would be required for smooth playback.
