No sound on Dimension E520

I have no sound.   Control panel says No Audio Device.   But I have had perfectly good sound for two years until it just recently stopped.   I have tried to install/update the driver recommended by Dell (R24105.exe), but cannot install it.   Installer says "The system does not support the driver you are attempting to install.) 

Help!

Running WinXP Media Center version, SP3.

Hi Deneb,

Please try running the Dell diagnostics on your audio adapter. Go to the F12 menu, then utility partition, then Dell diagnostics, then choose custom test, which allows you to test just one component.

When you post back with the results, please let us know what sound card you have.
