OptiPlex 790 Ram upgrade issue

My OptiPlex 790 came with 2 x 2g ram, I purchased 4 x 4g of ram online and when I put them in the system wont boot up. Specs says can manage 16gb in TL - getting series of beeps ( 3 ) no booting just black screen.

new ram is PC3-10600 1333MHz

Do I need to do anything in bios or jumpers etc to upgrade ram ?

Running windows 7 - 64bit

Please help

Hi,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

Optiplex 790 (Desktop tower, Mini Tower, Small Form factor) do support 16GB(with 1333MHz speed memory).

Does the system work fine with the previous 2GB memories? Have you tried the 4GB memories individually on each slot to see if there is any faulty memory?

Please try these steps and let me know the results.

Yes it works fine with the 2 x 2g ram that it came with. I have tried the 4gb ram sticks separately but get the same message. I have tried each stick as well ?

This suggests the new memory is incompatible.

Hello. I got it from ebay via china "Focus Memory"  - I just noticed it says on the advert

4GB DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz 240

Only fits AMD CPU Motherboard. It can not support any intel CPU motherboard

What type of motherboard does the Dell 790 use - Can you recommend a place that I can get some from at a good price ? 4 x 4gb sticks required

Where did you get it from? What brand and model?

It has an Intel CPU, and this should work.

Hi,

The Optiplex 790 uses Intel motherboard with Intel® Q65 Express Chipset. You can find the compatible 4GB memory for this model at the link below:

I have a Dell Optiplex 790 Desktop. It has bios 790-A18 installed. I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 on it with a 3TB Western Digital hard disk on UEFI bios. The processor is an Intel I5-2400 and it has at total of 10gb of ram memory.

I am using 2 x 4gb of the following ram (in addition to the original 2 x 2gb). This works well in my Optiplex 790:

Kingston ValueRAM 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM SR x 8 Desktop Memory - part number: KVR13N9S8/4R
