OptiPlex 9020 Quad Monitor Setup

I've got an older OptiPlex that I was able to customize when I purchased to include dual graphics cards and quad monitors. I'd like to upgrade to a new OptiPlex 9020, but they no longer appear customizable. Is there anyway to get one of these setup with quad monitors? Would it support adding a second identical graphics card to the one included?

Greetings MPPPRO!

Thank you for your interest in the Optiplex 9020.

Yes, the 9020 can be ordered with Dual AMD Radeon™ HD 8490, 1GB DDR3, FH, 1 DP 1 DVI, in order to support quad monitors.

Here's a post I made on SpiceWorks about this topic:

As you know, this config is not available on our Website. Please see the below methods to contact Dell sales

Please feel free to post back with any further feedback or questions on this topic.

Greetings Bushimoo,

Yes, the 9020 on board video + 1x video card added in the PCIE slot can drive 4 total displays. Few things to keep in mind:

1. You must have 'multi display' support enabled in the BIOS

2. If you're planning to run any DP to DVI adapters on the motherboard ports an active-powered adapter is usually required. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=470-AANW

Please post back with any further questions or feedback on this.

this multi-display bios setting is it only supported by windows 7?

Will the be any support from newer OS? Windows 2012, Windows 10? Windows 8.1?

Hi Bushimoo,

Alright, so I was a little out of date on this. I pulled a 9020 and tested this out. The test 9020 has two R5 240 cards with one monitor plugged into each card with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit installed ( factory load ).

The BIOS option isn't called 'multi display' anymore. The option has been renamed and improved to include the ability to manage which video card you want as the primary while still having all cards active.

The below is with Intel set as the Primary card. Once set, I was still able to get independent video from each R5 240 card.

Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit:

As for Windows 10 and 2012, I'm confidant this will work within those OS's as well.

Hi Bushimoo,

Glad to hear the NVS310 card is working well.

The test unit I have is on A11. This version isn't available for download, that I can see. BIOS A12 is the latest available version.

Bushimoo,

With an updated BIOS, Multi-display support is available for the 3020. The 3020 system however does not support dual addin cards.

You can have the onboard Intel and the 1 addin card running at the same time. I'm confidant this will work in Windows 8 and up. Note: you must have an addin card inserted into the PCI slot for the multi-display support option to show up in the BIOS.
