Optiplex 3020 - the elusive 4690 processor?

I purchased 4 Optiplex 3020 PC's thru TigerDirect that were supposed to have the i5 4690 3.5GHz processors, but when I checked the machines they only had the 4590 3.3GHz processors.  After notifying TigerDirect to replace the machines, they checked into it and then told me that after they spoke with Dell that in fact the 3020 does not ship with a 4690, that I was the first person who noticed it, and that every other vendor that lists a 3020 with a 4690 (including Newegg, Amazon, etc.) is in fact also misrepresenting their machines.  I have had an absolutely horrific experience so far with TigerDirect, such that I have no faith in what they are telling me (they did offer a $20 "refund, but only after raising my price by $14 because they "forgot" that a manufacturer's rebate had expired - and don't get me started on shipping)  Anyways I have to ask:

1) Is it true that the 3020 w/ a 4690 does not exist?

2) The fact that TigerDirect and others have advertised it for weeks- does this sound like a <deleted>?  I mean how many people bought what was supposed to be the 4690?  I am not dumb enough to think that I am the only person who actually checked to see if they got the processor they ordered.  Though I will admit TigerDirect did adjust their ad down to a 4590 immediately afterwards.

RE: Optiplex 3020 - the elusive 4690 processor?

We sold it with the Intel Core i5-4690 Processor (Quad Core, 6MB, 3.50GHz w/HD4600 Graphics). I cannot speak to the actions of a reseller.

The link you provided was for an Optiplex 9020 with that processor.  You are sure that you sell a configuration of the 3020 with the 4690?  TigerDirect is telling me point blank that Dell has told them that they do not configure it as such.

RE: Optiplex 3020 - the elusive 4690 processor?

Dell would not say that and have that on their site.

Intel® Core™ i5-4590 Processor (Quad Core, 6MB, 3.30GHz w/HD4600 Graphics) appears to be the default for 3020

A vendor can tell you anything verbally.  The only things that count are what are in writing/email/invoice etc.

RE: Optiplex 3020 - the elusive 4690 processor?

I agree with what you're saying - but then again the link you sent me is for a 4590 processor.  I still can't seem to find proof that a 3020 ships with a 4690

The 4690 is a BTO option.

The 4790K  4.0Ghz Core I7 is about 33 percent faster but costs more.

It can be requested but its not a huge improvement over the 4590.

Don't be fooled by the Mhz Myth.

6% or less is not a huge increase in performance.

RE: Optiplex 3020 - the elusive 4690 processor?

I totally agree with what you are saying regarding the relative chip performance - but the issue is that the vendor advertised and sold me the 4690 and now says it doesn't exist.  I will probably end up keeping the 4590's, but I am questioning their integrity.  I would be curious what I should ask for as a reasonable price break for accepting the 4590 vs the 4690?
