Optiplex 7010 SFF compatible memory

Hi all.

I'm currently looking to upgrade my memory from 4gb to 16gb. Is there a list of compatible memory available to view and would the following memory be ok for this machine ... The website states that it is compatible with the Optiplex 7010 but my guess is that they will tell you want to hear.

Kingston KCP316ND8/8 DDR3 SDRAM - DIMM 240-pin

Any help on thie matter would be muchly appriciated

You can always check out Crucial's UK site (http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ for compatible RAM for your system.

And if Crucial recommends it for a specific PC model, they guarantee it works in that system or they take it back...

BTW: from the manual:

Memory modules of different sizes can be mixed (for example, 2 GB and 4 GB). But, all populated channels must have identical configurations.

Keep in mind that RAM is best added as matched pairs. So if you have 2x 2GB now, you can add another 2x 2GB (total 8GB) or remove the existing 2x 2GB and install 4x 4GB or 2x 8GB (total 16 GB).

The supported RAM configurations are: 2 GB, 4 GB, 6 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB. So you can't have 2x 2GB + 2x 4GB (12 GB total).

Thanks for your replies RoHe. Yes I have looked at crucials website but would like the option to shop around and possibly upgrade as cheap as possible on auction sites. Does anyone here use kingston or tried it on the 7010 SSF?

I currently have a single 4gb Hynix memory installed which is what it came with so may just stick to that brand and type for the upgrade.

I have also read on here that the 7010 can be expanded to 32gb, hence the question about the memory I linked to above which is a 8gb stick.

Product Type RAM memory

Capacity 8 GB

Memory Type DDR3 SDRAM - DIMM 240-pin

Upgrade Type System specific

Data Integrity Check Non-ECC

Speed 1600 MHz (PC3-12800)

Latency Timings CL11

Features Unbuffered

Voltage 1.5 V

These numbers seem to meet the requirments for the 7010 but I suppose its just going to be a matter of taking a chance and trying for myself as I have looked all over for info on this matter and theres very little information being shared which is quite puzzling.

I have a 9010 SFF (similar model) which I upgraded to 32gb using G.SKILL value DIMMs. They're cheaper than Kingston, I think.

Two matched 4gb pairs of G.SKILL value memory should work to bring up total system memory to 16gb, more than enough for most uses. I installed 32gb because my intended use is development.

If you have one 4 GB module now, you can't just add 8 GB more because 12 GB (total) is NOT a supported RAM config according to the 7010 manual. You'd have to remove the 4 GB module and replace it with the 8 GB module. So if you really want 16 GB, you'll have to buy 2x 8 GB or 4x 4GB. Either way, the original 4 GB module would no longer be used. So maybe you could sell that 4 GB module.

If you want to keep using the original Hynix 4 GB module, you'd have to buy an identical 4 GB Hynix module so they're a matched pair. And then you could put 1x 8 GB or 2x 4 GB in the other 2 slots.

And the manual also says 16 GB is max RAM, so 32 may or not work.  Don't know the differences with the 9010 , so what works for rdunnill in the 9010 may or not work in the 7010.

Auction sites are risky because who knows what you're really getting or if it's any good.

If some other site guarantees their RAM works or they'll take it back for a FULL refund, you can probably buy whatever brand wherever you want to buy it.  At least Crucial offers that guarantee, and -in the USA- their RAM comes with a lifetime warranty, but check the UK site for Cruical's UK guarantee and warranty info.

I had these working in the 9010 before I upgraded it to 32gb.
